Addiction is a chronic, often relapsing brain disease that causes compulsive drug seeking and use despite harmful consequences to the individual who is addicted and to those around them.
Sabotage:
a : an act or process tending to hamper or hurt
b : deliberate subversion
You are probably asking yourself , what has this got to do with anything, the answer everything. This is also a piece of the addiction puzzle that needs to be addressed because it is another cog in the wheel that slowly grinds us, to include our egos into dust and keeps us there.
Have you ever experienced the following?
You have completed the detox portion of the program you have started in order to get clean. Things are going along fairly well and you are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. You are feeling proud of yourself for getting this far in your recovery.
Then all of a sudden, out of nowhere things just start to go wrong, and continue to snowball until everything has fallen apart and your standing in front of the mirror saying, "What's the use, it's just not worth it, so why should I go on, I'm just not worth it."
Does that sound familiar friend, well don't feel alone. Every one of us at one time or another has become subject to the destructive power of sabotage, and the worst part of it is when we realize we do it to ourselves.
As we follow this particular train of thought to the point of understanding, you will be able to understand the adage "Addicts are not bad people trying to get good, but rather sick puppies trying to get better."This subject requires some in depth study, because without a doubt in my recovering mind it rates way up on the scale of survival in the sober world.
Hang in there friend, things will get better as we go along and learn about this thing called addiction. See you soon. Dman
